Once the dust has settled, you are left to clean up the mess that has been left. Amid the chaos, the next steps can be confusing, so we wanted to lay it out for you.
Step 1: Assess the Damage
If you are reading this article you may have already finished this step. It is important to understand what you are dealing with. Look for obvious signs of water damage, mold and loose debris. Your safety is important, never enter an unstable building.
While assessing the damage, be sure to take many pictures of each room and detailed pictures of damaged areas. This can be helpful in judging the progression of possible damage and when filing insurance claims
Begin to track down receipts of property that may have been damaged. This can be a tedious task, therefore the sooner you begin, the better. While pictures are most helpful, having receipts can better affirm your financial loss, again for insurance purposes
Step 2: Remove Easy to Access Important Materials
If there are undamaged materials that are important to you or of high value, take them with you. But be sure that any property you enter is stable and free of dangerous debris hanging or on the floor in a manner that could cause injury. Your safety should be most important.
Texas Group Restoration does have the means to safely remove your property from the premises, without causing damage, mitigating the work you have to do.
Step 3: Secure the Property
Despite any damage, it is crucial that the property remains secure. With a damaged property it is likely to be a vacant property. Exposed windows and doors, that cannot be secured, should be boarded up. It should go without saying, but this is your reminder to lock up!
Step 4: Call Your Insurance Company
Navigating the insurance process can be difficult at times, but we work with them often which makes us experts when dealing with them. Be sure to keep a log of who you talk to within the insurance company. This includes the person who comes out to assess the property and any employees you speak over the phone with.
Do all communication in writing and confirm later over the phone. This ensures that everyone is on the same page. After any phone calls, ask for a summary email to confirm any details that were spoken about, creating a paper trail.
Step 5: Call Texas Group Restoration
We are a preferred restoration contractor by many insurance companies. Calling us should be the easiest step of all of these. This step signifies the revival, the turning back of time, the return to normal that existed before destruction set in. Let us restore your space.
